Naturopathic Medicine

Kinesiology

I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor currently practicing at Backfit Clinic in Victoria. I have always had a strong desire to understand how things work and why things are the way they are. This inquisitive mind combined with a passion for biology and the human body, lead me towards my career as a Naturopathic Physician.

The road to Naturopathic Medicine began in 2011 at the University of Victoria where I completed a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology. During this time, I became more interested in Physiology and Genetics as these courses helped to answer the core questions I have always asked such as why and how do things happen in the human body. After my time at the University of Victoria, I was accepted into the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine to complete another four-year degree leading to my Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine in 2019.

On a professional note, I am a positive and caring individual who wants to provide the best care to my patients so they can enjoy a healthy life. As a Naturopathic Doctor I believe that asking “why symptoms or conditions are present” is the key to uncovering the root causes and to achieve long term healing. I can do this by taking the time to ask detailed questions and listening to my patients during a thorough consultation, physical exam, and laboratory testing to assess my patients as a whole. When patients work with me, together we can build the foundation for a healthy and happy life.

On a personal note, I am an energetic and active person that enjoys physical activity of any kind. I have always loved sports and have played my fair share of them. During my time at the University of Victoria, I played for the varsity hockey team. I also enjoy volleyball, tennis, golf, and snowboarding to name a few. I am grateful to live and practice in Victoria where there are so many beautiful hikes, lakes, and beaches to explore. I am passionate about healing chronic pain in my patients so that they can all enjoy the activities that they love.

She believes that how we think, how we feel and how we regulate ourselves can have a huge impact on our health. She also views nutrition and digestion as critical components of health and by supporting these along with the nervous system, she is able to improve the quality of life for many of her patients no matter how simple or complex their issues are. Overall she’s passionate about helping her patients build resilience by uncovering and removing physical and mental/emotional stressors.

Dr. Andrea uses a combination of counseling, targeted supplementation, and diet and lifestyle advice geared towards her patients unique needs. She is also trained in emotional freedom technique (EFT) and utilizes it when it’s clear that past or present emotions are part of the presenting symptoms. She also has over 6 years of experience in using intravenous (IV) nutritional therapy for a variety of common and complex conditions. She loves incorporating IV therapy as it can be a great jumpstart to health, especially in cases where there is insufficient nutritional intake, chronic digestive issues, and nutritional deficiencies from periods of increased stress on the body (ie. Illness, surgery, injury, ect). The high dose nutrients used in IV therapy can improve energy, mood and sleep, reduce pain and feelings of stress/overwhelm, improve physical and mental endurance and help support a strong immune system (preventively or as treatment for infections).
